When I arrived at the party, Tim had already left.

When we arrived, the film had already started.

Sarah had just got home when I phoned her.

Wanneer gebruik je de past perfect?

Past Perfect: Gebruik je wanneer?

- Gebruik je voor de gebeurtenis die als allereerste gebeurde, 
   als er twee dingen in het verleden plaatsvonden. 

   My dad had already left, when I got home. 
   I realised too late, that I had forgotten my books. 
   After I had called Lisa, I started on my homework. 

Hoe maak je de past perfect?

Past Perfect: Vorming

- Regelmatige werkwoorden:   
   had + werkwoord + ed    (had walked, had talked)

- Onregelmatige werkwoorden: 
   had + 3e rijtje   (had eaten, had forgotten, had gone) 

Bij alle personen (I/you/he/she/it/we/they) gebruik je "had".

Je gebruikt de 
Past Perfect bijna 
altijd in combinatie
met de Past Simple.

She begun her show as soon as all the audience (arrive).

Before she went to New York, she (not-be) to America ever in her life.

He (work) at an office only a few days before he found his dream job.

I had lost my bike key so I decided to walk home.

The Past Perfect shows what happened first in the past.

As soon as I (finish) my homework I (go) out

Before he (move) to London he (live) in Amsterdam

When she (spot) me I (already see) her.
