A very poisonous chemical substance made from tar and also found in some plants and essential oils (scented liquid taken from plants). Carbolic acid is used to make plastics, nylon, epoxy, medicines, and to kill germs.

b. Did he use the carbolic acid only as an antiseptic or also as a disinfectant, please explain your answer?
Also as a disinfectant because he also used it to clean his surgical instruments.

c. Lister was seen as a real frontrunner, many doctors did not become aware of germs till 30 to 40 years later. Explain how you think a patient could quickly die of an infection in those days. 
- many healthcare workers did not clean their hands properly.
