De present simple en present continuous zijn allebei tegenwoordige tijden.

Er zit verschil in wanneer je welke moet gebruiken.

We gaan beginnen met de present simple.

You use the present simple for HABITS, ROUTINES, FACTS AND NON-ACTION VERBS OR FEELINGS


  
SHE, HE & IT get an S after the  verb.

I work in the garden every Saturday.                       Water (itboils at 100 degrees.
He works in the garden every Saturday.                 She runs faster.

Third person singular

 - a person (ex. Bob, Jane, my father enz.)
 - an animal (the dog, cat, fish, cow, enz.) 
 - a thing (chair, table, computer, book enz.)

My father works at a construction company.
The dog sleeps a lot.                                 The computer works fine.

Present continuous
The present continuous is used for things that are going on NOW ( at this moment/ today ) 


You form the continuous with:
am, is, are - INF - ing
ex. She is working in the garden right now.

How do you know when to use the continuous?
Pay attention to signal words in the sentence:
- right now
- at the moment
- Look! / Listen! (do you see that? / do you hear that?)
- etc.

Spelling rules:

sometimes the spelling of a word changes.
 If a word ends in:
 - e --> -e + ing (wave --> They are waving)
      (! see --> seeing & be --> being)

Spelling rules:

For verbs with a single stressed 'short' vowel (a,e,o,u,i), the last consonant doubles.
chat --> She is chatting. put --> They are putting.
