The Future with Present Continuous

What is Present Continuous?

The present continuous is a verb tense used to talk about actions happening at the moment of speaking. It is formed by using the verb 'to be' in the present tense and adding the present participle (-ing).

Explain to the students what the present continuous is and give examples of how it is used.

Using Present Continuous for the Future

The present continuous can also be used to talk about future plans and arrangements. It is often used when the speaker has a definite plan or arrangement that has already been made.

Explain to the students that the present continuous can be used for future plans and arrangements and give examples of when to use it.

When Not to Use Present Continuous for the Future

The present continuous is not used for future plans or arrangements that are uncertain or not definite.

Explain to the students when not to use the present continuous for the future and give examples of when to use other verb tenses instead.

Examples of Using Present Continuous for the Future

I am meeting my friend for lunch tomorrow. 

She is flying to Paris next week. 

We are having a party on Saturday.

Provide examples of how to use the present continuous for the future.
