Rules for writing a verb in the past simple
For regular verbs
  • For verbs ending in "e," simply add "-d" (dance = danced)
  • For one-syllable verb with a single vowel followed by a consonant, doble the final consonant before adding "-ed" (stop = stopped)
  • For verbs ending in "y," change the "y" to "i" before adding "-ed" (carry = carried)

Slide 11 - Slide

Irregular verbs
Irregular verbs do not follow the regular "-ed" pattern for forming the past simple tense, they have unique forms that need to be momorized.
swim = swam
eat = ate
write = wrote
drink = drank
drive = drove
