Een bijvoeglijk naamwoord gebruik je om iets of iemand 

te omschrijven. Een bijvoeglijk naamwoord wordt vaak gevolgd door een zelfstandig naamwoord.

That is an amazing girl.

We all love that funny movie.

I think he is a terrible teacher.

Adverb = bijwoord

Een bijwoord gebruik je om aan te geven HOE iemand iets doet. Een bijwoord omschrijft vaak een werkwoord, maar ook een ander bijwoord  of een bijvoeglijk naamwoord 

                                                                                    Mary sings wonderfully.

                                                     My grandparents talk incredibly loudly.

                            I am eating an amazingly delicious steak right now.

Hoe maak je een bijwoord?

Bijvoeglijk naamwoord + LY

Y - ILY

Adverbs and Adjectives

1. An adverb is a word that says something about the action, or how something is done.

2. An adjective tells you something about a person, a thing, an animal, an idea, a place.

Adverbs/ Bijwoord and Adjectives/Bijvoeglijk naamwoord

1. Je vormt een bij woord door -ly achter een bijvoeglijk naamwoord te zetten. 

beautiful becomes beautifully

2. -e wordt -y

nice  -  nicely 

terrible  -  terribly

3. medeklinker -y wordt -ily

easy  -  easily

4. -ic wordt - ically

fantastic  -  fantastically

6. Good wordt well.  

Adverbs/ Bijwoord

Een bijwoord zegt 

1. Hoe iets gebeurt.

John plays soccer well.

2. Hoe iets gedaan wordt

The chef cooks terribly. 

3. Ook een bijwoord iets zeggen over een bijvoeglijk naamwoord 

John is an extremely good player. 

4. Of een bijwoord dat al in de zin staat. 

John plays soccer extremely well.

Een bijvoeglijk naamwoord zegt wat iemand 

of iets is. 

The sleepy child is tired.

The sound is terrible.

SPELLING: adverbs 

• De spelling verandert wanneer het bijvoeglijk naamwoord eindigt op:

1.      -LE dan verandert -LE in -LY

• terrible - terribly                                         unbearable - unbearibly

  2.       medeklinker + y. Dan verandert -y in -ily. 

• angry - angrily                                            merry - merrily
