Multiplication Chart
Today we will be learning about how to mulitply with fun activities to help with practice and understanding how to do multiplication.
First, lets understand what multiplication means.
Do you know what multiplication means?
Slide 2 - Slide
What is Multiplication?
Multiplication allows you to be able to add more quickly when there is a repeating number.
Slide 3 - Slide
WHAT DOES MULTIPLICATION LOOK LIKE?
When multiplying, there will be an x symbol, which will indicate the "groups of."
For example : 3 x 2 means 3 groups of 2.
There are 3 groups of 2 squares in each box, blue, red and green.
Instead of doing long addition (2 + 2 + 2), we would do this problem by doing 3 x 2.
When solving both math problems, multiplying or adding, we would still get the same answer of 6.
3 x 2 = 6
Slide 4 - Slide
WHAT ARE THE RULES OF MULTIPLICATION?
Any number multiplied by 0 will always be 0.
- For example: 0 x 4 = 0, 6 x 0 = 0
Any number multiplied by 1 will always be the same.
- For example: 1 x 7 = 7, 1 x 3 = 3
The order off the numbers does not affect to answer.
- For example: 6 x 2 = 12, 2 x 6 = 12
You can add a zero onto the original number when multiplying by 10.
- For example: 3 x 10 = 30, 6 x 10 = 60
