Study effectively - not for really long periods of time.

Consequences of multi tasking

You take longer on your work (sometimes twice as long).

You make more mistakes.

Suboptimal use of short-term memory.

You have to hold on to too much in your attention, and then your short-term memory becomes overloaded, costing a lot of energy.

A lot of distraction causes stress: your body is too alert. Increased heart rate."

Exceptions

Some things you can do simultaneously because they are automated.

Cycling / driving

You no longer need your thinking brain for it.

That's why you can have a conversation while cycling or driving

Lets test it

• Typing with your left hand is not very easy
• Then number each letter and time yourself doing both things

Reading and remembering

Reading a text over and over is a study technique

Why doesn't is work?

How many words can we think in a minute 700, 1400, 2000

How many can we read 200, 400, 600?

What happens inbetween? 

Summaries

Don't always work - made pretty, too much detail, too superficial

Alternative: use the 5 w's 1 h technique

Who, what, why, where, when, how

Use this to help you in subjects like: History

        Geography

        Biology

More effective if you understand the concepts not just the text in the summary.
