Will + infinitive

= predictions based on general belief

Example: There will be another terrorist attack in Europe within a year.

= offers / promises relating to the future

Example: I shall never leave you. Shall I carry that heavy bag for you?

• You can use shall with I and we: it is disappearing though and it is only in offers and promises that you use shall.

Going to future

To be going to…

= future plans (especially when they are going to happen soon) who are not fixed ( you have not purchased tickets etc)

Example: I’m going to read a chapter of Paper Towns when I come home from school.

= intentions

Example: I’m going to work harder for school.

= predictions based on facts or events in the present.

Example: It’s going to rain this afternoon.

Present continuous ( to be + verb + -ing)

= definite future arrangements (plans that are fixed: tickets are booked, appointment are made, etc)

Next Tuesday we are flying to New York.

Present simple

= based on a timetable or schedule

Example: The summer holidays start on July 18th this year.

                    The train leaves at 6.

Future continuous will + be + verb + -ing

= you will be doing something in the future. Indicating certainty

Example: This time next year I will be lying on the beach in New Zealand.

                    My brother and I will be sharing a room (in our new house).

Future perfect simple will have + past participle

= to refer to events that have not yet happened but will definitely do so at a given time.

Example; By this time next year I will have passed my driving test.

Jan 2025 …… pass my driving test in August …… Jan 2026

Future perfect continuous wil have been + verb + ing

= to indicate duration

Examples: 

At the end of the year I will have been working for 26 years.

I’m going to study English.

I’m studying English.

I will be studying English this time tomorrow.

I will have been studying English for ten years.
