1. I will clean the kitchen. / Shall I clean the kitchen?

2. She is going to visit her grandparents next week.

Afspraken in nabije toekomst, tijd en/of plaats staan al vast.

  • Nog geen plan
  • Besluit, aanbod, belofte, aankondiging.      
  • Vraag/voorstel: Shall I / we     Will she / he   
I will clean my room this weekend, I promise!
He will go to the dentist (eventually).
Shall I buy you a drink?

2. To be going to + hele ww
  • er is een plan, maar nog geen afspraak
  •  voorspelling met bewijs

I am going to visit my uncle next week.
It isn't going to rain. Look at the blue sky!

3. Present Continuous 
(to be + hele ww + ing)

  • Het is geregeld of voorbereid.
  • Het gaat zeker gebeuren
  • Afspraak is afspraak!
I am celebrating my birthday tomorrow.
Ron is meeting his sister at 10 o'clock this Saturday.
I am leaving for Paris next month.

4. Present Simple (is nieuw!)
Voor feiten en gewoontes, maar ook voor dingen in de toekomst met een vast rooster.
to arrive, to end, to start, to begin, to close, to depart, to finish, to leave, to open.
  • The train departs at 9 o'clock.
  • The shop closes in 15 minutes.
  • The match finishes at half past four.

4. Present Simple (is nieuw!)
  • What time does the museum open?
  • When do classes start?
  • When does the tour end?
  • The museum doesn't open until 9 a.m.
  • Classes don't start on Monday, but on Tuesday.
  • The tour doesn't end for another year.

4 ways to use the Future tense
Present simple

Vier manieren om de toekomende tijd aan te geven:
  1. Present simple: volgens een (tijd)schema/rooster
  2. Present continuous: gaat zeker gebeuren, is geregeld.
  3. To be going to: plan of voorspelling met bewijs
  4. Will: belofte, besluit, aanbod of voorspelling zonder bewijs

Write a story about the future
Choose one of these first lines:
  • We are planning our escape.
  • The train leaves in twenty minutes with or without me.
  • She will become a crime fighter one day. 
  • "Shall I take your coat?"
  • He is going to give her the message.
Write for fifteen minutes, then read it to the person next to you.
