what is a conditional sentence?

First conditional (type 1)

wordt gebruikt als het best waarschijnlijk is dat iets gaat gebeuren, nu of in de toekomst. 

Bij if gebruik je de Preent Simple en in het andere zinsdeel will + een werkwoord.

E.g: 

If it rains, we will cancel the trip.

If it doesn’t rain, we won’t cancel the trip.

If it rains tonight,

If Tim studies hard,.......

1. He passes him exam
2. He will pass his exam
4. He would pass his exam

Third Conditional

Bij de third conditional gebruik je verschillende tijden in de twee zinsdelen. Bij if gebruik je de Past Perfect  (had + voltooid deelwoord) en in het andere zinsdeel would have + een voltooid deelwoord.

De third conditional wordt gebruikt voor zaken die absoluut niet gebeurd zijn in het verleden.

BIjv: If you had studied hard, you would have passed your test

If she had not arrived late, she....(not/miss) the first half of the show.
