Egg development and ovulation
  • Menstrual cycle takes about 28 days
  •  Set in motion by hormones
  • Egg cells develop within follicles
  • follicle grows by hormone stimulation
  • follicle ruptures during ovulation
  • Egg cell is released into the oviduct
  • Through hormones, endometrium thickens
  • If egg is unfertilized, the endometrium removes thickened lining, causing menstrual flow

  • LH is produced to stimulate ovulation (day 14)

Phase 3 - post-ovulation (day 14-28)
  • Oestrogen and Progesteron are produced to thicken the endometrium
  • breaks down if unfertalized, repeating the cycle
