What is menstruation?

• Release of blood from the uterus (uterus lining) through the vagina
• Start around age 12

• new egg cell develops in the ovary

• Phase 3: Ovulation (day 13-15)
• A new egg cell is released and send down the oviduct (fallopian tube)
• Egg cell survives 24 hours

• Phase 4 luteal phase: the body prepairs for pregnancy
•  Endometrium (uterus lining) grows to make a "nest" for the fertilized egg
• No fertilization? Menstruation starts again
