1. Vóór het hoofdwerkwoord (I always go to school)

2. Achter een vorm van to be  (I am never late)

Wanneer kies je welke?

a = woord erna eindigt op een medeklinkerklank

vb. a chair, a book, a uniform

an = woord erna eindigt op klinkerklank

vb. an apple, an uncle

Let op: het gaat om de klank (dus hoe je het zegt) en niet om hoe je het schrijft.
