•  Two brothers raised by a wolf (myth).
• Romules killed Remus and built Rome.
• Romules was the first of 7 Roman kings.

• 753-509 BC.
• Agricultural villages built on 7 hills.
• Ruled by a king (monarchy).
• Advised by a group of nobles= senate

• During war 1 consul could become dictator for 6 months. =legal ruler with all the power.
