Look at the following sentences:

You're 15 years old, aren't you?

She isn't at home, is she?

We were working really hard, weren't we?

Aangeplakte vragen!

In het Engels noemen we dit tag questions

Tag questions

Stel je wil iets zeggen, maar je weet niet zeker of het klopt, dan kan je gebruik maken van de tag questions.

Je ben nu op school, toch?

You are at school right now, aren't you?

Dit kan ook:

You aren't at school right now, are you?

Als de hoofdzin "+" (BEVESTIGEND) is dan is aangeplakte vraag een "-" (ONTKENNEND).

voorbeeld:  He is strong, isn't he?

Is de hoofdzin "-" (ONTKENNEND) dan is de aangeplakte vraag "+" (BEVESTIGEND). voorbeeld: You aren't angry, are you?

Uitzondering bij I.

Als de hoofdzin bevestigend is, dan zet je bij de aangeplakte vraag aren't.
