What is the present continuous?

Continuous = duurvorm, het gebeurt nu.

Present tense = tegenwoordige tijd.

Signaal woorden.

To be + verb + ing

3 uses

Bevestigend: to be + verb + ing + tegenwoordig deelwoord.

-> I am drinking tea.

Ontkennend: to be + not + verb +ing + tegenwoordig deelwoord.

-> I am not drinking tea.

Vragend: to be + verb + ing + tegenwoordig deelwoord + ? 

-> Am I drinking tea?

Werkwoorden die eindigen op -e

De -e verdwijnt en je plakt -ing erachter.

To have -> She is having dinner.

Not She is haveing!

Werkwoorden die eindigen op -c

Krijgen een k erbij voor -ing

To panic -> They are panicking.

Not they are panicing or paniccing!

Korte werkwoorden

die één klinker in zich hebben en waarbij maar één klemtoon mogelijk is.

Je verdubbelt de medeklinkers voor -ing.

To cut -> The barber is cutting his hair.

Not is cuting!

Let op!

Dit geldt niet voor werkwoorden die eindigen op één klinker en een -y.

Je gebruikt gewoon het werkwoord en plakt er -ing achter.

To play -> We are playing some nice games.

Not playying!

Werkwoorden die eindigen op een l, met één klinker ervoor

Je verdubbelt de l.

To travel -> Mark is travelling to Canada as we speak.

Not traveling!
