Past simple / Present perfect
We use both for past actions.

Past simple = completed actions in the past, we know when it happened.
yesterday, last year, in 2018, a few years ago

Present perfect = experiences in someone’s lifetime, we don’t know/care when it happened, but it happened somewhere in the past
