Today we are going to talk about the future, which can be done in many ways!
By using /will/ + the infinitive ( het hele werkwoord)
Example: Kevin will call you tonight.
By using a form of /to be/ + /going to/
Example: They are going to the cinema on Monday.
By using the present continuous
I am working this Saturday.
By using the present simple.
The concert starts at 10 PM.

Slide 3 - Slide

When do you use /will/ + the infinitive?

You use /will/ + the infinitive ( hele ww) to offer help, to make promises, announcements & decisions. (iets aanbieden, beloftes, aankondigingen & besluiten.)
You can use /will/ when there is no proof (geen bewijs)
Example: I think I will become a professional hockey player. (no proof!)
I will call the dentist, I promise. ( no proof! just a promise..)

Slide 4 - Slide

When do you use /to be/ + /going to/?
You use a form of /to be/ + /going to/ to talk about future plans & predictions for which you have proof. ( praten over toekomstige plannen & voorspellingen met bewijs!)

Example: Bo is going to sing at the concert tonight. (door deze vorm te gebruiken geef je aan dat je zeker weet dat dit gaat gebeuren. Je gebruikt /to be/ + /going to/ dus alleen wanneer je bewijs hebt.)
Example: My parents are going to make fun of my new boyfriend, that’s just what they do.

Slide 5 - Slide

When do you use the present continuous?
You use the present continuous for plans in the near future (nabije toekomst) that already have a set place or time. (de tijd of plaats staat al vast!)

How do you create a present continuous? By using a form of to be + verb + ing . ( een vorm van het ww ‘zijn’ + stam ww + ing.)
Example: We are working at the animal shelter at nine AM. ( set time!)
Example: She is talking to her doctor on Tuesday. ( set time!)

Slide 6 - Slide

When do you use the present simple to indicate a future action?
You use the present simple when you are talking about future actions set to a certain schedule. ( wanneer iets gepland is volgens een bepaald schema.)
Example: My train leaves in one hour. ( a train has a set schedule, so you may use the present simple to talk about it.)
Example: School starts at 8.30. ( set schedule → present simple!)
