Phrasal verbs - things to remember
  1. You can't always figure out the meaning just by looking at
the separate words: fall = herfst/vallen
     but:
You don't want to fall behind on your HW = achter raken
  2. Can have multiple meanings: take off
    Take off
your jacket, please. = remove (= uittrekken)
The plane is going to take off soon. = depart/leaves (= vertrekken)
  3. = look at the context!
  4. some are separable = scheidbaar -> I need to put on my dress.
-> I need to put my dress on.

8.7: Writing an opinion
To make sure our opinion flows well and is supported by facts/examples, we need to use linkers:
  1. Give your opinion: I think... / Personally, I don't think... / I believe... /
  2. Add further points (=facts, examples): In fact, ... / I also agree that ...
I also think that... / What is more ...
  3. Give an opposite opinion: On the one hand (+ argument)...On the other hand (- argument), I strongly disagree ... However, ...
  4. Conclusion: Therefore... / So... / That's why... / For this reason...

Language Focus
& Write
Before you write your own opinion piece, let's look at the Language Focus: structures with 'make'
= always takes an object + infinitive (ww) w/out to or an adjective/noun:
... made me think ...
... makes them tired ...

  • Now, try to write your own opinion piece/comment (ex. 7) in Word.
do ex 6 in pairs + discuss the statements
