If sentences (als-zinnen)
Wanneer er aan een bepaalde voorwaarde wordt voldaan, 
is er een bepaald gevolg.

De zin bestaat uit 2 delen:
1. bijzin met voorwaarde (begint met if)
2. hoofdzin met gevolg
Als....... , dan......

Bijzin (voorwaarde): if + past simple
Hoofdzin (gevolg): would (not) + hele ww 
 
If I knew where he lived, I would visit him.

I would eat sushi every day if I lived in Japan.

One last thing
Je gebruikt bij I / he / she / it in de bijzin vaak 'were' (wanneer je 'to be' moet gebruiken).

I wouldn't drive so fast if I were you.

If she were mad at you, she wouldn't talk to you.
