Future tenses

1. I will clean the kitchen. / Shall I clean the kitchen?

aanbod/belofte, aankondiging/besluit, voorspelling geen bewijs

2. She is going to visit her grandparents next week.

van plan zijn om, voorspelling met bewijs, afspraak

3. They are taking the five o’clock train

Afspraken in nabije toekomst, tijd en/of plaats staan al vast.

4. Our English lesson today ends at 11.50.

Will + infinitive (future simple)

Examples:

- I will bring you home after the party.

- I will go swimming if the sun shines tomorrow.

Use future with "will": 

- als iets in de toekomst zal gebeuren.

- een voorspelling 

- een belofte/aanbod op het moment van spreken.

Use future with "will": 

-simple - Shall I open a window?

-continuous - He will be cleaning his room at 5 p.m.

-perfect - We'll have finished lunch by then.

To be (am/is/are) going to + hele ww

Examples:

- I am going to visit my grandparents tomorrow.

- Look outside! It is going to rain!

Use future with "to be going to":

- Als je iets van plan bent (er is nog niets vastgelegd!)

- Voorspellingen waar je bewijs voor hebt

Use future with "Present Continuous" (am/is/are + ww + ing):

- er is al een afspraak is gemaakt/iets is vastgelegd.

- iets gaat binnenkort gebeuren.

Behalve voor de toekomst gebruik je de present continuous ook om:

- aan te geven dat iets NU aan de gang is

- aan te geven dat iets IRRITANT is (you are always picking your nose)

Use future with "Present Simple": 

(hele ww zonder to/ bij she/he/it +S)

- Dingen die volgens een vaste tijdsplanning verlopen (bijvoorbeeld een dienstregeling of een rooster).

- Na sommige woorden die iets met de toekomst te maken hebben

Je gebruikt de present simple ook:

- om aan te geven dat iets vaker voorkomt (of nooit) of een gewoonte is

- bij werkwoorden die iets te maken hebben met de zintuigen (smell, taste, sound etc)

3. Present Continuous 

(to be + hele ww + ing)

• Het is geregeld of voorbereid.
  
• Het gaat zeker gebeuren
• Afspraak is afspraak!

I am celebrating my birthday tomorrow.

Ron is meeting his sister at 10 o'clock this Saturday.

I am leaving for Paris next month.

4. Present Simple 

Voor feiten en gewoontes, maar ook voor dingen in de toekomst met een vast rooster.

to arrive, to end, to start, to begin, to close, to depart, to finish, to leave, to open.

• The train departs at 9 o'clock.
• The shop closes in 15 minutes.
• The match finishes at half past four.

4. Present Simple

• What time does the museum open?
• When do classes start?
• When does the tour end?
• The museum doesn't open until 9 a.m.
• Classes don't start on Monday, but on Tuesday.
• The tour doesn't end for another year.

4 ways to use the Future tense

Present simple	fixed time (volgens rooster )	The bus leaves at 6.
Present continuous	dingen gaan zeker gebeuren	I 'm leaving for Paris tomorrow.
to be going to	plan gemaak t, afspraak nog niet	We 're going to watch a film this weekend.
