You use "on" when you talk about:

• Surfaces: On the roof
• Vehicles: On the bus/train

• Buildings: At school.

• Cities: in Amsterdam
• Countries: in the USA

• Days of the week: on Tuesday
• Specific dates: on the 22nd of August
• On a weekend (USA)
