A sentence that describes a cause/situation and links it to a result

Conditionals - IF....

1st: 

If I study hard, I will pass the test.

I won't get Corona if I stay away from everyone. 

2nd: 

If I studied hard, I would pass the test. 

I wouldn't get sick if I got Corona. 

First conditional - likely to happen; 80% sure.

first conditional

If it rains tonight,

1. I don't go out
2. I will not go out
3. I wouldn't have gone out
4. I would go out

If Tim studies hard,

1. He would have passed his exam
2. He will pass his exam
3. He passes him exam
4. He would pass his exam

Second conditional - Unlikely to happen <10% sure

An impossible or imaginary situation

If + past simple, would + infinitive

If it rained, it wouldn't be so bad to stay inside.

(It is sunny now, so imaginary situation) 

Second conditional

......, we would miss our flight.

1. If you will be late
2. If you are late
3. If you had been late
4. If you were late

...., your mom wouldn't buy you a present.

1. If you failed your exam

Turn the following statements in conditional sentences:

1. You're unhealthy because you eat too much fast food.

2. They have no money because they don't have a job.

3. I lost the match because I played poorly.

4. He's always tired because he goes to bed too late.

5. We'll have to walk to work because we don't have a car.

1. You're unhealthy because you eat too much fast food.

If you didn't eat fast food, you would be healthy.

or

You would be healthy if you didn't eat fast food.

2. They have no money because they don't have a job.

If they had a job, they would have money.

or

They would have money if they had a job.

3. I lost the match because I played poorly.

 If I played well, I would have won the match.

or

I would have won the match if I played well.

4. He's always tired because he goes to bed too late

If he goes to bed earlier, he won't be so tired.

or

He won't be so tired if he goes to bed earlier.

5. We'll have to walk to work because we don't have a car.

 If we had a car, we wouldn't have to walk to work.

or

We wouldn't have to walk to work if we had a car.
