British:
r - when followed by a vowel sound (klinker) - (at beginning of word) 
   - ring / marry
t - hard t - better (no pronunciation of r)
American:
r - every r in a word - butter
t - sound like d - butter sounds like budder
There are also differences between American and British English in the areas of spelling and vocabulary
