Narrative tenses

When you tell or write a story you use narrative tenses.

Narrative tenses are past tenses:

- Past simple

- Past continuous

- Past perfect

- Past perfect continuous

The past simple

She wrote her first novel in 2020.

Past continuous

We arrived at the theatre just as the show was starting.

Past perfect

Martha's children devoured the cake that she had baked only an hour ago.

Past perfect continuous

We had been working so hard that we decided to take a break.
