They come after a word and change the meaning.

-er

Means the one who does the action of the verb.

teach-> teacher    write-> writer    rap->rapper

-ing / -ment

Changes the verb into a noun (zelfstandig naamword).

I paint -> a painting     I pay -> a payment

-less

Means without 

My cat has hair. -> My cat is hairless.     

-ful

Makes a noun into an adjective

The painting has colours. -> The painting is colourful.
