Important points (RULE 1)

 A compound adjective that comes after a noun usually doesn't have a hyphen.

This was a last-minute decision.

This decision was last minute. 

Which of the following is correct?

Which of the following is incorrect.

1. She narrated a never ending story.
2. His story seemed never ending.

RULE 2

Do not use 's' in the end of the compound adjectives which refer to numbers.

a) Let's opt for a ten-minute break. (correct)

b) Let's opt for a ten-minutes break (incorrect)

Mark the incorrect option.

1. Our teacher gave us a thirty-minute break.
2. She gifted me a hundred-rupees pen.
3. She gifted me a hundred -rupee pen.

RULE 3

3) Words such as self-confidence and great-grandfather come with hyphens. However they are not compound adjectives. They are nouns themselves!
