Test Unit 5 Sensing and Perceiving the environment
Basics: 1, 2, 3, 4 and 7.
- The bit about near/far-sightedness (eyes) will not be tested.

Checklist online in SOM + answer sheet Unit 5

Slide 2 - Slide

What's a stimulus?
A
An organ that reacts to the environment
B
Elektrical signals to the brain
C
Something in the environment (e.g. heat)
D
A cell that catches impulses

Slide 3 - Quiz

What do your sensory cells do?

Slide 4 - Open question

What are things you
can feel with your skin?

Slide 5 - Mind map

Mix and match
Dermis
Sweat glands
Corneal layer
Sebaceous gland
Basal layer
Is made of dead cells
Exists out of living (fast dividing) cells
Makes an oily substance
Here are the cold, heat, pressure, touch and pain receptors.
Makes moisture to cool down

Slide 6 - Drag question

The skin

Slide 7 - Slide

How do you perceive when someone smiles to you? And how do you react?
Give 6 steps using key words

Slide 8 - Open question

What part of the eye has sensory cells?
A
Blind spot
B
Fovea
C
Orange spot
D
Small spot

Slide 9 - Quiz

How do you perceive when someone smiles to you? And how do you react?
Give 6 steps using key words

Slide 10 - Open question

What happens with stimuli?
Stimuli are sensed by sensory cells
They produce impulses

The impulses  ('elektrical signals')
go towards and from the brain

Slide 11 - Slide

Nervous system in action
  1. Senses receive stimuli
  2. Sensory cells produce impulses
  3. Impulses travel by nerves to the spinal cord
  4. Trough spinal cord towards the brain
  5. The brain processes these impulses to perceive
    the environment, (conscience = bewustzijn)
  6. Impulses are sent down to the muscles and glands.
  7. Muscles and glands react  (effect)

"move arm towards chocolate and produce saliva"

Slide 12 - Slide

To see light must pass several parts of the eye. What is the correct order?
A
cornea, pupil, lens, retina
B
lens, retina, pupil, cornea, pupil,
C
pupil, lens, retina, cornea,
D
cornea, lens, cornea, pupil, retina
