Conditionals 

Zero, first, second and third conditional 

First conditional:  Dingen waarvan we vrijwel zeker weten dat ze gaan gebeuren. 

- IF + present simple , will (won't) - 

If it rains, we will cancel the trip.

Second conditional 

• We gebruiken de second conditional wanneer we het hebben over situaties die héél onwaarschijnlijk of niet waar zijn (nu of in de toekomst). 

- If I won a million euro's, I would buy a new car.

- If I had a brother, I would hate him. 

How do we use the second conditional? 

IF + Past simple, would + infinitive 

- If I met the queen of England, I would say hello.

- If I had his number, I would call him. 

If I _______ (to have) the time, I would learn Irish.

If my grandma _________ (to visit) me, I would be very happy.

She would travel all over the world if she ________ (to be) rich.

If they had more time, they _________ (to stay) longer.
