Gebruik:
Als zelfstandig naamwoord
Na een werkwoord die een mening uitdrukt (hate, love, like, enz) : I hate making my homework.
Na een werkwoord als start, stop, continue, begin: The pupils continued laughing after the teacher fell down. 
Na een voorzetsel: After doing the dishes I'm going out. 
Na bepaalde uitdrukkingen: It's no use crying over spilled milk.

Na een werkwoord als to hope, to want, to expect, to
choose en to hesitate: Don't hesitate to ask for my help.
Na werkwoorden die ‘iets zeggen’ uitdrukken, zoals to agree, to promise, to demand, to forbid en to refuse: I refuse to help anyone who does not make their homework.
In combinatie met would love, would hate, would like enz.: I would love to publish a book someday.
 Na de werkwoorden to learn, to manage, to fail en to tend: You learn to speak English in my class.
