In addition to interactive elements, you can also add Components to your lesson. What are they, what types are there, how and when do you use them in your lesson?

In the following slides, we will briefly go through all the components with you.

What are components?





With components in LessonUp, you can add extra (interactive) functionalities to your lesson. 

This significantly enhances the learning experience for students and allows you to cater to the diverse needs of learners. LessonUp offers 11 different components that can be placed within an existing slide.

Slide 4 - Slide

Component: Text
1. With the Text component, you can place text boxes anywhere on your slide, independent of the selected layout.

2. A text box appears in the top left corner of the slide.

3. The text in the text box can now be fully customized to your liking using the gear icon. All adjustments are separate from the default layout of the slide.

Slide 5 - Slide

Component: Video
1. If you want to resize, shrink, or drag a video in your slide, select the option +Component, and then Video.

2. Next, add a video from your own uploads (max. 20 seconds), from LessonUp, or insert a Youtube/Vimeo link.

3. The video will appear in the top left corner of the slide. Move or resize it as desired. The start and end time of the video are fixed.

Slide 6 - Slide

Component: Image
1. With the Image component, you can place images anywhere on your slide, independent of the selected layout.

2. Click on +Component and then Image. Upload an image and click on 'Choose file' to add it to your lesson. You can resize the image by adjusting the frame.

For more advanced options to customize the image, click on the gear in the frame and then on the pencil (e.g., add shadow, make the image movable).

Slide 7 - Slide

Component: Hotspot
1. With the 'Hotspot' component, you can place interactive buttons anywhere on your slide. Hotspots allow you to add an additional layer of retrievable information. Click on the hotspot during your lesson to access it.

2. Click on '+Component', and then on 'Hotspot'.

For more advanced options to customize the hotspot, click on the gear in the box, and then on the pencil (e.g., add text or an image).

Slide 8 - Slide

Component: Symbol
With the Symbol component, you can add symbols such as circles, arrows, triangles, and stars to your slide.

1. Click on '+Component', and then on 'Symbol'. Choose one of the following symbols to add to your slide: rectangle, triangle, circle, hexagon, star, arrow, rocket.

2. The newly created symbol will appear in the top left corner of the slide. To customize the symbol, click on the gear icon, and then on the pencil.

Slide 9 - Slide

Component: Table


With the Table component in LessonUp, you can add tables to your slides and fill them with data. You can easily customize and format the tables.

1. Click on '+Component', and then select 'Table'.

2. Choose the desired format in the grid, and the table will appear in the top left corner of the slide.

Slide 10 - Slide

Component: Audio
With the 'Audio' component in LessonUp, you can place interactive buttons with audio at any desired location on your slide. This allows you to add an additional layer of accessible audio information.

1. Click on '+Component', and then select 'Audio'.

2. The audio button will appear in the top left corner of the slide. By clicking on the gear icon and then the pencil icon, you can add your audio clip and further customize the component.

Component: Formula


With the 'Formula' component in LessonUp, you can add formulas to any desired location on your slide.

1. Click on '+Component', and then select 'Formula'.

2. A window will appear where you can create the formula. You can add the formula in the box on the right-hand side.

Component: Traffic Light


Using a 'Traffic Light' in the lesson is a commonly used method to teach students to focus during independent work in a classroom situation.

1. Click on '+ Component', and then on 'Traffic Light'.

2. During teaching, you can click on the desired light to display it.

3. By clicking on the gear icon, you can adjust the settings of the traffic light.

Slide 13 - Slide

Component: Spinner
The Spinner in LessonUp is primarily designed as a name-picker. The names of the students automatically appear in the Spinner during a classroom lesson, after they have entered the pin code.

However, instead of students' names, you can also place concepts in the Spinner. This allows you to create engaging activities for both classroom and shared lessons.

Slide 14 - Slide

Component: Timer
With the 'Timer' component, you can place a timer (or stopwatch) anywhere on your slide.

1. Click on '+ Component', and then on 'Timer'.

2. Like with other components, you can resize the timer by adjusting the size of the frame.

3. The time can be adjusted by clicking on it in the timer. This can be done beforehand or during the lesson.

For more advanced options to customize the timer, click on the gear icon and then on the pencil icon.
