1 VWO-TTO group: always have to speak English in class, are probably already using the present continuous but aren't aware of the fact that it is the present continuous.

Present Continuous: Without knowing anything about the present continuous we're going to discover what it is while talking about some of the gif on the following slides:


Log into the LessonUp
- in pairs look at the slides and write down what the people/things are doing in slides.
Discuss with your partner.

Once you've looked at every slide, try to make sentences of what the people in the slides are doing.

Example: what is happening in the first slide? --> the masked people are laughing --> example of a sentence

Not possible to log in? discuss the gif with the group; then have them work in pairs, they'll have to come up with a sentence of each gif.

write down one sentence per group on the board

Ask the group to focus on the verbs; what do you notice about the verbs in these sentences?

all are in the present tense
all use a form of 'to be'
all use a verb form ending in -ing

that an action or condition is happening now, frequently, and may continue into the future
