Staat er een vorm van to be of can, could, will, would, should, may, might en must in de zin? Wissel dan de persoonsvorm om met het werkwoord.

Hetzelfde geldt voor has got alleen blijft got staan.

Dan gebruik je do/does/did

*= Let op dat het werkwoord geen 's' krijgt als je does gebruikt.
** = Let op dat je het werkwoord niet in de verleden tijd schrijft na 'did'

Als je wilt zeggen dat iets niet zo is gebruik je hiervoor het woordje not.

Staat er een vorm van  to be, can, could, will, would, should, may, might, en must? Dan plak je not achter dat werkwoord.

VB. 
She is a lawyer                                             She is not/isn't a lawyer
They should take some time off.        They should not/ shouldn't take some time off.

Ontkennende zinnen maken
Staat er geen vorm van to be, can, could, should, will, would, may, might of must in de zin?
Dan zet je do not/don't, does not/doesn't of did voor het werkwoord.

VB.
I travel by train.                                 I don't/do not travel by train.
She works in that building.         She doesn't/does not work in that building 
They visited Manchester.             They didn't/did not visit Manchester.
