MUSIC MAKES THE WORLD GO ROUND FOR TEENAGERS

You know how this works! Let's read together.

TEXT 1
1. Music is the central focus of teenagers' lives and their spending, a survey reveals today, writes Clare Longrigg.
2. The news comes after tickets for an Oasis tour sold out in hours at the weekend as fans jammed hotlines. Seconds after 300 special phone lines opened at 9am, they were blocked by callers, who bought 156,000 tickets at £17.50.

3. Fans had slept outside the six venues across Britain to be first in line when the box office opened. By dawn on Saturday, 2,000 fans were queueing outside Olympia in London.

4. The scale of the turnout endorses a TSB survey which shows that music is the single most important thing in the lives of nearly a quarter of teenagers. Teenagers could also be the most important things in the loves of record companies: some boys spend more than £50 a month on music.

TEXT 1
5. Almost half of the teenagers questioned also said their clothes were influenced by pop stars. However, the survey of 500 16 to 20-year-olds is bad news for songwriters with a message. The report says that teenagers buy a record because they like the tune, rather than for its social or political content. In fact, 75 percent say they don't like what it stands for.

6. The confusion of messages is even greater when it comes to drugs. Forty-three percent of teenagers surveyed sait that Liam Gallagher's caution for possessing drugs made them lose some respect for him, but it did not stop them voting Oasis albums the two top records of the 1990s.
