The imperative

We use the imperative when we:

Give directions: Listen to your parents.

Give advice: Don't forget your umbrella.

Give orders: Listen to me!

Give warnings: Be careful!

How do we make the imperative?

Positive sentences:

(The infinitive - "to") = The imperative verb. 

The imperative is at the beginning of the sentence.

Clean your room!

Negative sentences:

Don't + the imperative verb. 

Don't open the door!

How?

Directions / instructions or Advice --> You end the sentence with "."

Take a seat.

Make a right.

Orders or Warnings --> You end the sentence with "!"

Watch out!

Come here!

Sit down!

etc...

Use the imperative:
You should tell your brother to help you.

Use the imperative:
You should not eat so much.

Use the imperative:
You could take a right at the traffic light.

Use the imperative:
You should stay away from snakes.
