said -> past simple

had fallen -> past perfect

= 'had fallen' happens longer ago

Gebruik: Als je twee gebeurtenissen in het verleden hebt. Een gebeurt voor de ander. 

Past Perfect

When I walked into the room the lesson had already started.

had already started -> verder in het verleden

walked -> later in het verleden

Tijd tussen de twee gebeurtenissen.

Volgorde kan ook omgedraaid staan.
