  • Remember: I can list the levels of organisation from smallest to largest, starting with a molecule and ending with a planet.
  • Understand: I can give an example of each level of organisation, such as a muscle being a tissue and the heart being an organ

Draw a cell
Last lesson you learned about cells and their parts.
Use your memory to make a drawing of a simple cell.
Try to name as many parts in your drawing as possible.

Tips:
  • Start with the shape of the cell and its outside, (what is this part called?)
  • What different parts are inside the cell? Go one by one.
  • If you can't remember the shapes, start by writing the names of parts you can remember
  • Is your cell a plant, animal, etc.? Are there any special parts for this type of cell?

Slide 7 - Mind map

Molecules: Tiny parts of a substance.
For example a drop of water is made of millions of water molecules.
Other examples are: Oxygen and carbon dioxide.
Organelles: the 'organs' or parts of a cell.
They perform different functions for the cell.
Cells: the smallest living part of organisms.
These take many different forms and shapes
Tissue:, a group a same-type cells.
You can find many different tissue types in an organism
Organ: a group of tissues that together perform a specific task
Organ system: a group of organs that work together to perform a function
Organism: all of the other parts combined form the organism, a living being.
Levels of organisation
Each level is a combination of the levels beneath it.
For example: Many cells together form a tissue

Group of organisms of the same species
all deer in a forest
Community
All organisms that live together in a specific place.
all deer, insects, birds, plants, etc.  that live in a forest
Ecosystem
A community + all non-living parts: like the ground, water
everything found in a forest
