Bij dingen die in het verleden zijn begonnen en nu nog aan de gang zijn.	Geen nadruk op tijd I have lived in Tuitjenhorn for a long time.	Wel nadruk op tijd I have been living in Tuitjenhorn and I have never seen a student there

De nadruk ligt op het resultaat van iets dat in het verleden is gebeurd.	Eenmalige gebeurtenis I am really happy since I have found this job	Iets dat langere tijd duurt, vaker voorkomen of het is een gewoonte. I am really tired because I have been working very hard.

Wanneer het onduidelijk is wanneer (of het is niet belangrijk)	I have lost my keys. (als je wist wanneer had je een idee waar je moest zoeken)	Deze kan dan niet. Als je zegt I have been losing my keys dan ben je ze kwijt, vind ze weer en ben je ze weer kwijt etc.

Voor iets dat heel kort geleden is gebeurt.	I have just seen a couple of cows cross the street. (net gebeurt, true story)	Deze kan dan niet.
