Slide 4 - Slide

Present Prefect
In U3 you have learnt about the present perfect: when and how to use it. But we are going to add some situations in which you use the present perfect.

Before we do that, let's have a short recap...

Slide 5 - Slide

When do we use the present perfect?
A
when know exactly when something happened
B
when we don't know when something happened
C
when something is about to happen
D
when is something is happening right now

Slide 6 - Quiz

Present Perfect - when (accoring to Unit 3)

You were taught to use the present perfect when it isn't important when it happened (in the past).
In other words, when there is no time expression.
For example (in Dutch):
Ik kocht een boek. Ik heb een boek gekocht.
Er is geen tijdsaanduiding.

Slide 7 - Slide

How do we form the present perfect?
A
verb+s
B
verb+ed
C
to be verb+ing
D
have/has past participle

Slide 8 - Quiz

Present Prefect: how
You were taught to form the present perfect by using:
have or has (depending on the subject)
and by using the past participle (voltooid deeldwoord)

The past participle form of regular verbs: verb+ed.
The past participle form of irregular verbs: pp. 149-150
E.g.: I have bought a book.

Slide 9 - Slide

Choose the correct sentence with the present perfect in it:
A
I have done my homework yesterday.
B
I did my homework.
C
I have done my homework.
D
I have did my homework.

Slide 10 - Quiz

Uitleg
I have done my homework yesterday. = fout, want "yesterday" geeft aan dat je precies weet wanneer iets is gebeurd (past simple).
I did my homework. = fout, want er is geen tijdsaanduiding, maar er wordt geen present perfect gebruikt.
I have done my homework. = goed, want geen tijdsaanduiding en juiste vorm van de present perfect.
I have did my homework. = fout, want verkeerde past participle vorm van do
> to do - did - done

Slide 11 - Slide

Choose the correct sentence with the present perfect in it:
A
I shut the door.
B
I have shut the door.
C
I shutted the door.
D
I have shutted the door.

Slide 12 - Quiz

Uitleg
I shut the door. = fout, want geen tijsdaanduiding, maar geen gebruik gemaakt van present perfect.
I have shut the door. = goed, want geen tijdsaanduiding en juiste vorm van present perfect.
I shutted the door. = fout, want geen tijsdaanduiding, maar geen gebruik gemaakt van present perfect.
I have shutted the door. = fout, want verkeerde participle vorm van "shut" > to shut - shut - shut

Slide 13 - Slide

Past Participle: when
We gaan niets veranderen aan wat je al weet over de vorm, maar we gaan wel uitbreiden in het aantal situaties waarin je de present perfect moet gebruiken.
>>>

Slide 14 - Slide

Present Prefect: when (1)
Situatie 1 (blijft): het is niet belangrijk wanneer iets gebeurde

Signaalwoorden: géén

Voorbeelden:
We have finished all out work.
She has given me a really good idea.

Slide 15 - Slide

Present Prefect: when (2)
Situatie 2: je wilt zeggen dat iets in het verleden is begonnen en het nog steeds doorgaat.

Signaalwoorden: since, for, in

Voorbeelden:
I've been here since coffee time.
Dominic has waited for hours.
We haven't seen you in weeks.

Slide 16 - Slide

Present Prefect: when (3)
Situatie 3: je wilt zeggen dat iets in het verleden is gebeurd en je er nu het resultaat nog van ziet.

Signaalwoorden: géén

Voorbeelden:
I've done my homework. Here it is.
He has broken his leg. That's why his leg is in plaster.

Slide 17 - Slide

Present Prefect: when (4)
Situatie 4: je wilt zeggen dat iets net of nog niet is gebeurd.

Signaalwoorden: just, lately, recently, yet

Voorbeelden:
They've just sent him a message.
I haven't finished this yet.
! just, lately en recently staan tussen have/has en past particple in. Yet staat altijd achteraan in de zin.
