Passive = lijdende vorm (passief)
  • Onbelangrijk / onbekend wie een handeling heeft verricht
  • Nadruk op wat gebeurt ipv wie het doet
  • Altijd vorm to be + voltooid deelwoord
  • Soms gevolgd door "by ..."

Active: Many people study this book.
Passive: This book is studied by many people.

Present simple passive:
am / is / are + voltooid deelwoord
Regelmatig: ww + ed (studied, destroyed, arrested)
Onregelmatig: 3e rijtje (spoken, told, sold)

Active: The fire destroyed the buildings.
Passive: The buildings were destroyed by the fire.
