Slide 1 - Mind map
Dystopia
Dystopian societies in literature are often created as ideal societies, but evolve into a dangerous place when the community’s structure and rules are taken too far. The novel’s conflict, revolves around the main character’s feelings that something is wrong in his community, and how he reconciles his feelings living within such a structured society.

Think about it! (Birthmothers)
Birthmothers are not a high level funtion or something to really be proud of. You can serve three years as a birthmother which means 3 births. These children are NOT yours. They are then placed with a unit/family.
‘Three births, and that’s all. After that they are Laborers for the rest of their adult lives, until the day that they enter the House of the Old. Is that what you want, Lily? Three lazy years, and then hard physical labor until you are old?’” (pg.22)
