What to do first?

It's just as (or even more) important to look at the question as it is to look at the text itself. For most questions is not essential to read the entire text in order to answer the question correctly.

Very often, the question gives you extra information about what to do or where to look. 

 Let's give it a shot! But first: how does making an exam work?

- geen ruimte voor nuance (altijd, nooit, etc.)

- altijd gebaseerd op iets uit de tekst.

 Vraag: Wat is de kern van alinea 1?

Antwoord: link met titel + plaatje

Wat zegt de titel en het plaatje jou? 

Er staat 'spare', waarvan je misschien weet (of aan hoe je het schrijft af kunt lezen) dat het 'spaar' betekent. 'Wily' moet je misschien opzoeken, en betekent 'sluw'. 

Is dit een positieve of negatieve manier om een dier aan te duiden? 

Wat kun je hier uit halen?

Het goede antwoord is 'C'

1. Introduction of the topic

Okay, now we've looked at the simple question 'wat is de kern van alinea 1'.

This is one of the three possible questions you get in the beginning of a text. 

The other two options are: 

- What is being said about ...?

- Open-ended question

What is being said about ....?

Let op! Soms helpt CITO je ook op weg!

Deze vraag krijg je als de titel is niet helemaal duidelijk is, ze geven je daarom extra informatie in het gedeelte waarin ze zeggen 'about ...'.

Cito geeft je de volgende informatie: alinea 1 gaat over vegetarisme en trekt daar een conclusie.

A: there are no harmful side-effects to vegetarianism. 

B: Not mentioned and not a conclusion.

D: It will not lead to more traffic. That is only mentioned to compare the emission.
