Genitive - hoe geef je bezit aan?

Bij personen, namen, tijd en plaats: 's / s '

    bij personen enkelvoud:                          John's brother / My sister's book
    bij personen meervoud:                          Both my brothers' cars / Two girls' books

    bij personen meervoud zonder -s:    The children's toys

    bij tijd enkelvoud:                                       an hour's drive

    bij tijd meervoud:                                       three hours' drive

   

    bij plaats zonder benoeming

     van het gebouw:                                        We were at Linda's              I buy my bread at the baker's.

.   ... of ...    als 'dingen' horen bij                The legs of the table                 The aim of the article was to convince you
    andere 'dingen'

Let op!

Let op: eindigt een woord in het meervoud al op een s dan hoef je daar alleen nog maar een ' achter te zetten

Wanneer je aan wilt geven dat iets ergens bij hoort, gebruik je …of… voor dingen, plaatsen en landen:

    The cover of the book
    The leg of the chair
    The tail of the dog
    Three pounds of flour
    The city of New York

Let op! Namen uit de klassieke oudheid krijgen alleen een apostrof.
