The lowest class had to pay all the taxes. Many farmers also had to work without pay. Servile duties

France and the three estates 
France had a society of estates. 

You were placed in one of the three estates. 

The first and second estates owned most of the land and had privileges.

Example: They paid no taxes.

When you combine the estates and privileges we call this for France the Ancien regime.

Cause of the Enlightenment ---> Scientific revolution

Logical or better know as rational thinking

Example --> Natural disaster. 

This new way of thinking is called the Enlightment.

In favour of Tolerance.

Rousseau believer in democracy (radical)

Absolute rulers were not a fan.  --> censorship.
