What is the Future Simple?

The Future Simple is a tense that’s used to talk about things that haven’t happened yet. Use the Future Simple to talk about an action or condition that will begin and end in the future.

When do we use the Future Simple?

1) When talking about things that we think will be true in the future.

• It will be a nice day tomorrow.

2) To express a want or a willingness to do something.

•  I hope that you will come to my party.

When do we use the Future Simple?

3) To make offers and promises.

• I'll see you tomorrow.
  

4) To talk about offers and promises.

• Tim will help with the cooking.
  

When do we use the Future Simple?

5) To talk about plans or intentions.

• We are going to visit our grandparents during the easter holiday.
  

6) To make predictions based on evidence we can see.

• Look at all those dark clouds, I think that it's going to rain.

How do we form the Future Simple?

Positive

Will + base form of the verb

• I will learn a new language.
• My siblings will sleep till noon if no one wakes them up.

It doesn’t matter if the subject is singular or plural; the formula for the Future Simple doesn’t change.

How do we form the Future Simple?

Positive

To be + going to + base form of the verb

• I am going to learn a new language.
• My siblings are going to sleep till noon if no one wakes them up.

Will + not + base form of the verb
