Past perfect, how does it work?
Past Perfect        -           had + past participle

something happened in the past before something else happened in the past.

Past Participle (deelwoord):         have-had-had
                                                                    be- was -been
                                                                     fly- flew -flown

I had had a heavy breakfast when you offered me food.
