Getting to know each other 

I'm going to give you a number of tasks, where you have to find the correct order in which to stand, based on information that you have to ask each other for. 

For example: stand in order of age, from the youngest on the left to the oldest on the right. 
Which question could you ask to get this done? 

Some questions you may need: 

How many pets do you have? 

How far do you live from school / where do you live? 

Where did you go on holiday?

What are your hobbies? 

How many years of English did you do in primary school? 

From left to right: nearest to farthest from school 

From left to right: fewest pets to most pets 

From left to right: holiday distance: where did you go? Closest on the left, farthest on the right 

From left to right: most years of English in primary school on the left, least years of English in primary school on the right. 

From left to right: weirdest hobby on the left, most common hobby on the right

Come to class prepared: books ready, homework done, ready to learn.	Make fun of your classmates or laugh when they make a mistake
Raise your hand before speaking	Go walking around without permission
Be respectful to your classmates and teacher.	Talk when you are supposed to work quietly
Do your best and keep trying	Be afraid to ask questions
Be honest and don't cheat	Use your iPad for games, social media or other personal stuff.
Keep your hands off other people and their belongings.	Eat or drink in class, except water.

ANY RULES FOR ME? 

HOW DO WE WORK? 

- You've got two books on paper. The first few months: only bring book  A. I will tell you when it's time to bring B. 

- You will also need a notebook (schrift) 

- Some exercises, the ones we do in class, are done in your book. For homework, you can choose whether you work online or in the book. 

- Extra material, audio and video: online. 

- No telephones in class. Notebooks stay in your bag until I tell you otherwise. 

- We speak English in class, as much as we can. Don't be afraid to speak English. 

- We work with learning goals. In the next class I will show you what they look like and where to find them. I don't want to overwhelm you. 

Get to work 

- In this first week, you do not yet get any homework. This means that you finish as much as you can in class but you don't have to finish it at home. 

Of course you can if you want to! 

A few minutes before the end of the lesson, I will show you a QR-code that you can use to answer a few questions about the learning goals of today

How are you? 

Did you have a good weekend? Yes: Stand up. No: Stay seated

Were you tired after the first week? Yes: Stand up. No: Sit down.

Do you feel you know the school a bit? Yes: Stand up. No: Sit down. 

Did you enjoy your first "real" lessons? Yes: Stand up. No: Sit down.

Have you ever been to England? Yes: Stand up. No: Sit down.

Have you ever been to the USA? Yes: Stand up. No: Sit down.

Did you do any English in primary school? Yes: Stand up. No: Sit down.

Do you play online games or watch a lot of YouTube? Yes: Stand up. No: Sit down.

In your book, do the following exercises. They all help you to find your way around the book. 

Page 10 and 11	Exercise 2, 3 and 4
Page 12 and 13	Exercise 5, 6, 7 and 8
Page 14	Exercise 9 and 10*
Page 15	Exercise 1
Page 16 and 17	Exercise 2 and 3
