reclaim halls
Schiphol has 4 reclaim halls
here you find the baggage belts for arriving baggage
responsible for this process is: BASS (Baggage Airport Service Schiphol)
16 reclaim carousels (or luggage belts, conveyor belts)
3 odd size belts
Slide 8 - Slide
your role as PGSA
If you work in a reclaim hall, you might expect many questions about which flight will be arriving on which belt.
It's very useful to know what belt is in which of the 4 halls.
The Schiphol app
gives a lot of information about arrivals: what time does a flight touch down, on which baggage belt will the baggage arrive?
Slide 9 - Slide
responsible for baggage:
Not Schiphol (AAS), but the
handling agent
of the airline is responsible for the baggage.
Active handling agents at Schiphol (at this moment):
Aviapartner, Dnata, Menzies, Swissport, KLM and Viggo
.
Slide 10 - Slide
baggage workers on the platform:
unloaders
to get the baggage out of the belly
drivers
for the trucks
unloaders
to load the baggage onto the baggage belt in the reclaim hall
Slide 11 - Slide
baggage is usually being delivered within 20-40 minutes after landing on the belt in the reclaim hall
Slide 12 - Slide
airside
Airside:
these are
all areas, for which you can only get access by passing a security checkpoint (and for which you need an airport pass)
Airside is divided in 4 areas:
traffic area (verkeersareaal)
landing area (landingsterrein)
technical area (technisch areaal)
cargo (vracht)
Slide 13 - Slide
1. traffic area
lounges
piers
gates
platforms
VOP's (vliegtuig opstelplaatsen)
buffers (extra "opstelplaatsen" without an aviobridge)
Slide 14 - Slide
2. Landing area
taxi ways
runways
Schiphol has 6 runways
all runways are in use for take-off and landing (depends on the wind)
Slide 15 - Slide
3. technical area
hangars at Schiphol-Oost
largest: hangar 14
1 x every 5 jaar major maintenance
takes 4 weeks to get finished
Slide 16 - Slide
4. cargo
Schiphol Zuid
no passengers
1.6 million tons of cargo each year via Schiphol
from the Netherlands: mainly flowers
only cargo carriers (airlines)
Slide 17 - Slide
OCC / HCC
OCC =
Operations Control Centre
:
planning of crews and aircraft
HCC =
Hub Control Centre:
surveillance of the ground process and punctuality of the timetable
Slide 18 - Slide
safety on airside
Schiphol is a very large, busy terrain
Chain of safety: as safe as the weakest link
Schipholpass: different colours for different areas
Koninklijke Marechaussee (KonMar) is visibly responsible for safety at the airport
Customs (douane) responsible for im- and export of goods (also think of drug trafficking...)
