What exactly is the NHS?

"It refers to the Government-funded medical and health care services that everyone living in the UK can use without being asked to pay the full cost of the service."

So basically it's the health care system in the UK.

Now read question 26, without looking at the multiple choice options.

Read paragraph 2 (and perhaps also 1), and decide for yourself what you expect should be in the gap for question 26.

Toelichting bij 26C:

Lees bij een 'gatenvraag' altijd om het gat heen:

Eerst staat er: "It used to take a totalitarian state to create an alternative reality, _____________."

Erna komt: "According to one estimate, a third of online reviews are fake."

Je hebt sowieso een signaalwoord nodig dat een tegenstelling aangeeft (A of C). Na het gat staat een link met nu, vandaar C.

Als je weer naar de synoniemen kijkt tussen antwoord B en par. 2-3:

false information = misinformation

access people have to proper knowledge is hampered = it becomes harder to sift fact from fiction / valid, authority

*Geen synoniemen voor gullibility (A) en opinion (D)!

Toelichting bij vraag 28:

"In practice, the democratic ideal of Wikipedia, in which we are all editors, is anarchy." (alinea 3)

Synonyms:

all contributions are valid = democratic, we are all editors

who is an authority? = anarchy (if we don't know who has the expert knowledge, it becomes a mess)

Now read paragraphs 4 and 5, and decide for yourself what the main points are in each paragraph.

Write them down for yourself in a few words.

Again, the synonyms...:

fashioning an online personality = online narrative (je maakt zelf een verhaal van wie je online bent)

affect = change

one's actual personality = how we see ourselves / who we actually are

Now read question 30, and first decide for yourself what you expect should fit in the gap. Without looking at the options!

My guess for the gap in q. 29:

it's difficult (to say)

Now look at the options and take your pick / look up any words you need to know the meaning of.

Toelichting bij vraag 30A:

Door het stukje "both books suffer from being five years too late and five years too early" kom je als het goed is uit bij antwoord A omdat we nog midden in deze ontwikkelingen zitten die razendsnel gaan ("the wheels of change keep on turning").

We hebben dus niet het goede "perspective" om te kunnen oordelen over wat het belangrijkste is.
